10-minute emergency rescue of breakouts, flaky skin, dullness and puffiness.
It's 7 am and you have a morning meeting with the boss over your performance appraisal, and the skin on your nose is peeling off. Makeup just doesn't stick. It's prom night and you got a zit that popped up right on your forehead. It's the first time you meet with your boyfriend's parents and you woke up with puffy eyes. It's your wedding day and you woke up with dull skin and a few zits.
You panic, you curse, and you feel cursed.
Before you resign to the assumption that you are doomed to look your worst on your most important occasions, here are some trick-of-the-trade tips from makeup artists to the rescue.
That Darned Zit
~For the suddenly erupted swollen pimple, anti-redness eyedrops (or the kind with antihistamine) can tame redness and shrink blood vessels. Saturate a Q-tip or a cotton pad with the eyedrop and place it on affected area for 5 minutes. Don't rinse off, and proceed to the rest of your beauty regimen. For best results, refrigerate the eyedrop prior to application.
~Because gel type acne treatment can flake off, it's better to use powder instead of liquid foundation.
~Don't rub concealer onto the pimple. Use a light tapping motion to apply the product.
~Don't use oily makeup on affected area(s).
*please note that this is an emergency treatment only. If you are a chronic acne sufferer, you will need to find a suitable regimen for daily use, or may need to seek the help of a dermatologist in severe cases.
Flaky Skin
Many people are sensitive to seasonal changes. The most common reaction to seasonal changes is flaky skin, especially around the nose areas. Flaky skin is a symptom of dehydration and needs to be treated for makeup to stay on and stay smooth.
~When you have flaky skin, avoid using powder. Powders will accentuate the look of flakiness and dryness.
~If you discover flakiness before you apply makeup, do a 10-minute essence sheet mask to hydrate skin, and massage the remaining essence onto skin. You will discover that makeup sinks in much more quickly once your skin is hydrated.
~If you wear foundation, you can mix a moisturizer with your foundation in the ratio of 1:1 on the back of your hand, then apply onto face. If needed, use a very small amount of loose powder to set makeup, preferably with a brush. Avoid using a sponge with the powder - it will make your face look cakey and dry.
~If you experience flakiness after you have already applied makeup, you can use a non greasy moisturizer and lightly pat/tap onto the flaky areas. Use a small amount so it doesn't ruin your makeup.
~During seasonal changes, try using an essence sheet mask once every 2-3 days to keep your skin hydrated and balanced.
Puffy Eyes
Trick #1: Boiled red tea bags can reduce puffiness in eyes. Don't forget to cool them before putting them on your eyes!
Trick #2: Mix homogenized milk (not skim milk) with vinegar in the ratio of 10:1. After blending, saturate a cotton pad and put on eye lids for 3-5 minutes, followed by placing warm towels on the eye lids.
Trick #3: Coffee can improves metabolism of water. In the morning, drink a cup of coffee while standing up. This will reduce the water retention in skin and body.
Trick #4: Massage eye contours with an eye essence or eye cream. Wipe off excess.
Dull Skin
Dull skin is usually caused by either bad circulation or dryness/dehydration. If you wake up with dull skin, simply use a massage cream to improve blood circulation or a non-abrasive exfoliant to buff away dead skin cells to reveal radiant skin.
